Heather Goldminc Memorable moments and events can have a profound influence in the direction of where our lives are headed. Heather Goldminc's moment came at the age of five. One day, her mother brought home a bag of clay which instantly captured Heather's interest. As she recalls, the stuff was cold, wet, gray and musty -- hardly the things to inspire a young girl! However, this raw lump of clay would soon become a reflection of her soul, dancing through her dreams until given life through her hands. Growing up in North Vancouver, B.C., Heather was inspired by a wealth of life experiences, including competitive Highland dancing. Working her way through art school, Heather juggled jobs as a dance instructor and shoe store salesperson. Her position at the shoe store would become another memorable moment in her life her boss, Jean-Marc, would soon become her husband! Soon after the marriage came Heather's next challenge: motherhood! Heather had an idea to use her strong artistic background and love of clay to support a home-based business. Her mum and dad bought her first kiln, and Heather gave up the shoe business to pursue her true calling. And before she realized, Heather began to sell her products to local gift stores and galleries, absolutely thrilled that her creations gave many people tremendous joy. In the early years of her giftware business, Heather and Jean-Marc worked together to run a clay studio on a small island near Vancouver. The studio quickly became one of the most popular spots for giftware on the island. After a busy three years, Heather came to realize that she could not fulfill her developing artistic dreams alone. As a result, the studio headed in a new direction. As if fate had intervened, Blue Sky approached Heather. Captivated by her work and dedication to keep its joyful spirit intact, Blue Sky offered Heather a way to inspire collectors worldwide. In the summer of 2001, Heather and her family toured Europe. There, she renewed her love of Highland dancing and passed on her passion to her two children. They went on to compete in several dance competitions and placed favorably. The trip also had an enlightening affect on many of Heather's new creations are inspired from the classical architecture and old world charm she saw in England, Scotland, France, Switzerland and Italy. Today, Heather and her family live on Vancouver Island, where she continues her design work. Her new studio overlooks the Pacific Ocean, where she often sees United States cruise ships sailing on their way to Alaska. For Heather, it is a tremendous privilege and dream-come-true to see her work in the homes of people all over the world and touching the hearts of so many. Truly, Heather's story is an overnight success that took a lifetime to blossom.
